Tracey Gear & Precision Shaft manufactures spur gears to customer blueprints, from 3 to 48 diametral pitch and 0.5 to 8 module, up to 36″ in diameter and AGMA Q11. We cut spur gears as individual gears, cluster gears, gear segments, and integral teeth on shafts. Every gear is made in our Pawtucket, Rhode Island facility under an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality system, in small to medium production runs, 100% in the USA.
We are a build-to-print shop. You supply a complete engineering drawing, and we develop the manufacturing method to hold the gear data, tolerances, and finishes it calls out.

How We Make Them
- We cut spur gear teeth on our CNC gear cutting equipment, hobbing or shaping depending on the part geometry
- We produce gear blanks, bores, and hubs by CNC turning & milling
- We finish bores and critical diameters by CNC grinding
- We cut keyways and internal splines in gear bores by broaching

Materials
We manufacture spur gears in steel, stainless steel, bronze, aluminum, cast iron, nylon, and phenolic, as specified on your print. Your drawing must call out the material. We do not recommend or select materials.

What size spur gears can you make?
We manufacture spur gears up to 36″ in diameter with up to 12″ face width. For spur gear teeth cut on shafts, we handle parts up to 60″ between centers and up to 6″ in diameter.
What pitch range do you cut?
We cut spur gears from 3 to 48 diametral pitch, and metric spur gears from 0.5 to 8 module.
What gear quality can you hold?
We manufacture spur gears up to AGMA Q11.
Do you make nonmetallic spur gears?
Yes. We cut spur gears in nylon and phenolic, in addition to steel, stainless steel, bronze, aluminum, and cast iron.
Can you make cluster gears and gear segments?
Yes. We manufacture cluster gears with multiple gears on a single part, and gear segments cut to your print.
Can you make a spur gear from a sample part?
No. We do not reverse engineer parts or work from samples. We require a complete engineering drawing.

- Full gear data: number of teeth, diametral pitch or module, pressure angle, pitch diameter, face width, tooth thickness or measurement over pins, and quality class
- Material and any heat treatment
