Helical Gears Made to Your Print
Tracey Gear & Precision Shaft manufactures external helical gears to customer blueprints, from 3 to 48 diametral pitch and 0.5 to 8 module, with helix angles up to 50°, up to 36″ in diameter and AGMA Q11. We cut helical gears as individual gears and as integral teeth on shafts. Every gear is made in our Pawtucket, Rhode Island facility under an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality system, in small to medium production runs, 100% in the USA.
We are a build-to-print shop. You supply a complete engineering drawing, and we develop the manufacturing method to hold the gear data, tolerances, and finishes it calls out.

How We Make Them
- We hob helical gear teeth on our CNC gear cutting equipment
- We produce gear blanks, bores, and hubs by CNC turning & milling
- We finish bores and critical diameters by CNC grinding
- We cut keyways and internal splines in gear bores by broaching

Materials
We manufacture helical gears in steel, stainless steel, bronze, aluminum, cast iron, nylon, and phenolic, as specified on your print. Your drawing must call out the material. We do not recommend or select materials.

We manage heat treating, plating, and passivation through our network of qualified vendors, so you receive a finished gear from a single supplier.

Common Questions About Our Helical Gears
What size helical gears can you make?
We manufacture helical gears up to 36″ in diameter with up to 12″ face width. For helical gear teeth cut on shafts, we handle parts up to 60″ between centers and up to 6″ in diameter.
What helix angles can you cut?
We cut helix angles up to 50°, left-hand or right-hand.
What pitch range and quality do you hold?
We cut helical gears from 3 to 48 diametral pitch and 0.5 to 8 module, up to AGMA Q11.
Do you make internal helical gears?
No. We manufacture external helical gears only. For internal gears, see our internal spur gears.
Do you make herringbone, double helical, or crossed helical gears?
No. We manufacture single helical gears for parallel shafts.
Can you make a helical gear from a sample part?
No. We do not reverse engineer parts or work from samples. We require a complete engineering drawing.
What We Need to Quote
Please send a complete engineering blueprint that includes:
- Full gear data: number of teeth, normal or transverse diametral pitch or module, pressure angle, helix angle and hand, pitch diameter, face width, tooth thickness or measurement over pins, and quality class
- Material and any heat treatment
- Dimensions and tolerances
- Surface finish requirements
- Any additional processes (plating, coating, etc.)
