As part of our integrated manufacturing capabilities at Tracey Gear & Precision Shaft, we are proficient in all methods of grinding. Staffed by experienced professionals, our grinding department is an integral part of our full-service manufacturing capabilities. Our high proficiency has also allowed us to offer grinding as a standalone service giving customers the opportunity to fully benefit from this precision service. Our facility houses a broad range of manual and computer-controlled equipment that allows us to achieve a high dimensional and geometric accuracy as well as high precision surface finishes. These precision results are attained through finishing processes such as surface grinding, internal grinding (ID), cylindrical grinding (OD), and polishing.

We have the ability to grind parts of all sizes, shapes, and geometric complexity. Our cylindrical grinding equipment features a work envelope of 13.0” in diameter and 69.0” between centers, and we handle external surfaces that are straight, tapered, or contoured. We perform ID grinding on bores as narrow as 0.25” in diameter or as wide as 10.0” in diameter. Our surface grinders produce very fine finishes, accurate dimensions, and exceptional flatness, and we also offer polishing to remove oxidation and create defect-free surfaces. With a staff that understands all the fundamental aspects of precision grinding, they choose the best abrasives and grit sizes to accomplish every grinding task. All of our grinding processes produce excellent results with dimensional tolerances as close as ±0.0001”.

Our grinding department handles parts manufactured from all types of metal, including alloy steels, bronzes, and hardened, high-strength superalloys. We also grind various polymer materials. We are ISO 9001 certified, and our quality assurance includes profilometer, CMM inspection, as well as a range of other measurement analytics based on your specifications.

We have the flexibility to handle short runs or process high production volumes. Along with grinding and polishing, we offer numerous other supporting services, including, heat-treating, plating and coating, dynamic balancing, and others.
