Thread Grinding Services

At Tracey Gear & Precision Shaft, we operate an entire division dedicated solely to the process of thread grinding. Our thread grinding department is equipped with an extensive lineup of state-of-the-art equipment, giving us the versatility to handle small runs as well as large runs of technically complex thread patterns. With our production resources and vast thread grinding experience, we deliver your products quickly while meeting the critical quality requirements of the most challenging applications.

We specialize in producing thread milled and thread ground worms and worm shafts as well as injection screws, timing screws, and ball screws with UNC, ACME, and Whitworth threads. Our thread grinding capabilities include thread angle of 35°, a swing of 300 mm (12.0”), continuous thread of 1 M (39.4”), and 1 M (39.4”) between centers. We can accommodate multiple starts, various thread forms, and leads. With our ability to custom form the grinding wheel in any shape, we can create precision radii or chamfers at the root and tip.

The materials we process include metals of all grades and temper, including hardened, high-strength alloys. We also produce accurate threads in rigid plastics and composites such as acetyl, FRP, and phenolic. With our high accuracy CNC equipment and continuous monitoring of angles, leads, and forms, we uphold precision tolerances up to ±0.00005”. Along with CMM inspection, we use a variety of precision metrology instruments, including optical comparator and profilometer, to ensure that the dimensions, geometry, and surface finish measure up to your specifications.

We offer precision thread grinding as a standalone service and as part of our end-to-end gear and shaft manufacturing platform. Our experience crosses many industries, and we serve customers all over the globe. To learn more about our ISO 9001:2008 certified thread grinding services, contact us directly.

Specifications
Thread Grinding
  • Multiple starts, any thread form or lead
  • 1M (39.4") between centers
  • 300mm (12") maximum OD
  • 1M (39.4") maximum length of thread *
  • 35° lead angle **
Thread Milling
  • 3M (120") between centers
  • 300mm (12") maximum OD
  • 35° lead angle

*We are capable of grinding up to 1M (39.4") of thread in certain situations with minimal fixturing interference issues.

**We are capable of 90° RH & LH, however, at lead angles greater than ±35° machine specifications become dependent on tooling, part and wheel diameter, coolant delivery, and other fixturing interference issues.
